Building your model

  • Step One: Draw a design
  • Step Two: Create a paper model (write pros /cons and redesign as needed)
  • Step Three: Take pictures of your paper model from multiple angles (top, side, front, back, bottom)
  • Step Four: Write an analysis of your design - what looks good? what concerns you? where might you need reinforcement? etc...

Actual Construction

  • Step Three: Referencing your model, Draw your design TO SCALE (think 1/2 or 1/4 scale based on the size of your furniture) and determine how much cardboard you will need
  • Step Four: Collect cardboard
  • Step Five: if you are layering cardboard to increase strength (gluing several layers together), do so now and allow the layers to dry
  • Step Six: Draw your design FULL SCALE on your cardboard and cut it out - be as economical as possible, you should have very little wasted cardboard!
  • Step Seven: Assemble your furniture
  • Step Eight: Weight test (about 200 pounds)
